Maternity and Paternity Leave

Maternity and Paternity leave is a period of time off work that is caused by the birth of a baby or in cases of adoption, guardianship or foster care. It is an equal benefit for men and women.

All women and men, salaried and self-employed, with a minimum number of months of contributions, with some exceptions, can access it.

The time off is the same for men and women: 16 weeks to be enjoyed after childbirth. In the case of the biological mother, this leave may be brought forward by four weeks to the expected date of birth.

It is a leave with economic coverage, both the female and male worker are entitled to a subsidy from the same day of the date of birth or the start of the leave, if this is earlier. The economic benefit for the birth and care of a child is equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base of the mother or father in question.
